WCDMA promises to achieve increased system capacity while providing high-speed internet and data services including high quality image transmission. The antenna arrays used in WCDMA systems poses a challenge in reducing the complexity, size and cost of the base stations that increases with the rising use of cellular services. This paper discusses implementation issues of a simple WCDMA transceiver with three antenna elements in a FPGA based software radio platform. Measured results of each block are presented and discussed to justify the implementation. The paper concludes with the results obtained from the performance of the system in both AWGN and uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels.
