Light sources, Transmitters, Direct Frequency Modulation, Injection Locking
It is shown that in an injection locked laser, the slave laser reproduces frequency modulation but suppresses intensity modulation of light from a directly modulated master laser. A clear physical picture is provided starting from static considerations. Unlike past analysis, the analysis is valid for all injection levels. Unlike reported work, a dynamic analysis is carried out ensuring that conditions chosen correspond to the dynamic stability region of the slave laser. The analysis shows that the suppression of intensity modulation is good only at low injection levels and at low modulation frequencies.
