Pattern recognition, Template comparison, Competent Subspaces, Space of patterns.
The method for recognition of a large number of patterns based on consecutive comparison of unlabeled object with the standards of pairs of patterns, followed by the choice of the most similar standard from each pair is described. The comparison of competing hypotheses is made in the subspace of features chosen for recognition of each pair of patterns separately. We suggest using of the display of feature space to the " space of patterns" that allows recognition of objects for a number of pairwise comparisons, such that this number does not exceed the number of patterns. An example of decision by this method of a task to recognise the ten visual patterns whose realizations suffered high-level noise.
