Coscheduling, Solaris OS, patterns, communication
Implicit coscheduling for time-shared execution of parallel programs is becoming an important scheduling option for cluster and grid environments. In this paper, we demonstrate some of the limits of the approach which have not yet been recognized in other work. Certain dependency patterns and high communication ratios make coscheduling perform poorly. Furthermore, we present dynamic thread adaptation as a possible improvement.
