Many recent development environments support the visual construction of applications. Some of them use the term “component” to explain the composition process. In this paper, the assembly editor of the component development environment HOTAGENT is presented to show a possibil ity to visually construct agents for electronic commerce. In addition, an editor to compose new components using ex isting components is presented. The requirements of the composition process are described and it is shown how to use the HOTAGENT ASSEMBLY and HOTAGENT COMPO NENT editors.
