A well defined process is the only way to produce reliable software on time and on budget. Although several modern processes, have been successfully implemented and used in a variety of situations, most Web applications are developed in a rather ad-hoc manner with a minimum of process or no process at all. We studied for one year a real web development company to understand why these groups resist the implementation of standard software processes such as RUP. We found that this scenario is indeed different but simplified versions of the same standard processes can be used in a very effective way.
