Cluster-based Location Discovery in Ad Hoc Sensor Networks

Acquisition of location information of nodes is one of the most important components for efficient implementation of a wireless sensor network. This paper describes a reactive and distributed algorithm that enables the nodes in the network to find out their own locations with the help of the information provided by the beacon nodes. In this algorithm the beacon node placement is fixed, and clusters are formed around some of the beacon nodes. The clusters are then used to find out the spatial location of all the other nodes in the network. The cluster formation algorithm shown here is distributed and reactive. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is applicable for both high and low-density networks.
