Abstract

As cellular services expand in quantity and capability, new cellular technology networks are introduced to augment existing cellular networks. Load sharing multimode traffic across these diverse networks is possible, since a goal of 4G is to offer increased seamless mobility for customers across diverse networks. An integrated network uses vertical handovers to move or overflow traffic between diverse cellular networks. Integrated networks can raise capacity, increase network flexibility, and help to achieve QoS goals for wideband data. This paper provides a detailed analysis of the performance of perfectly integrated networks versus separate dedicated networks, via a simulation study.
