Abstract

One function of traffic management in a distributed network is to control switch congestion. Switch congestion in an overstrained network can result in dropped packets and retransmissions. One aspect of traffic management is flow control. A reliable and intelligent method of doing flow control on an Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) network for the affordable ATM Available Bit Rate (ABR) service with an enhanced credit-based flow control scheme using Credit Update Protocol, Zero Queuing Flow Control and adaptive buffer allocation is suggested and tested.
