Abstract

The always-increasing bandwidth demand for wireless access systems is pushing the study of the propagation channel a step forward. Directional measurements in both up-link and down-link are now required. An experimental set-up for this kind of measurements requires sophisticated equipment that is difficult deploy quickly. We present here the development of a system that seems to be a good compromise between huge hardware costs and manpower costs. The system, controlled by a PC, is composed by a synthetic array built around a positioning system and a network analyzer. The reasoning behind the chosen solutions are presented. A few measurement results are presented.
