Concurrency Control, File, Locking,Cluster, SAN.
Storage area network (SAN) is a networked storage system in distributed environment supporting exponentially growing data. It needs an appropriate concurrency control such as locking since multiple users simultaneously access shared storage. This paper proposes a host lock manager based on distributed lock managers to sup port multiple clients in a cluster SAN environment, and evaluates the performance focusing on communication cost, lock request response time, and average wait time. The proposed lock manager is more flexible and easier than earlier device lock manager, and the communication cost is significantly reduced since spin-locks are eliminated. The bottleneck in a lock server can also be eliminated by employing distributed lock servers.
