Abstract

This paper describes an aircraft depot overhaul analysis and simulation tool designed to help improve throughput and flowday performance through simulation-based plan feasibility analysis and alternative production plan generation. A unique design feature of the tool is its ability to automatically translate parametric, structural, and policy changes in the domain into appropriate simulation model constructs. Internal representation of the aircraft overhaul process and the associated constraints was accomplished using Petri Nets. These models were also used to simulate the performance impacts of different production strategies. The paper also describes the implementation of the swarm intelligence approach to building sub-optimal solutions.
