Abstract

Software development can be controlled by the tools and techniques used to manage the development effort. Large-scale software development necessitates an automated process for tracking the progress of the software project. A technique was developed for tracking the progress of the software being built. The methodology developed was based on extracting information and analyzing text from the team status reports. The members of the software development team periodically document the team status reports. The team status reports contain relevant information about the project and its status in terms of its progress in the developmental cycle. A technique for analyzing the contents of team status reports when made available online is discussed here. The technique was implemented in the form of a prototype tool. The prototype tool is also briefly described from the software development standpoint.
