Abstract

Risk taxonomy methodology provides a risk identification framework mapping the characteristics of software development projects to their associated risks. This method helps a software development team systematically identify risks based on the defined risk taxonomic groups. Given the many changes to the nature of modern information technology (IT) projects, there is a need to take into account additional aspects of the project besides the software development risks. This paper identifies some improvement areas of the SEI risk taxonomy from the perspective of systems engineering as well as other risk drivers of modern IT projects. Based on our findings, a revision to the risk taxonomy for IT projects is proposed.
