In this paper the challenges in wireless communication in respect of limited capacity of the air interface and availability of finite transmission bandwidth are investigated. The wireless customers are growing rapidly and the desired data rates are also increasing at multifold rates this has prompt us to have more efficient use of frequency resources. The Space division multiple access (SDMA) can be used to multiply the capacity given by various techniques such as FDMAS, TDMA or CDMA. The channel assignment strategies for SDMA are also discussed in this paper.
