IEEE802.11, TCP, Wireless LAN
Recently, IEEE802.11 wireless LAN is widely developed and the wireless LAN based Internet access environment called a hot spot has been increased. Although a hot spot provides high-speed transmission, it suffers from packet losses resulting from the handoff while terminals move and the transmission errors due to bit errors and collisions. Those losses invoke unnecessary congestion controls for TCP communications which reduce their throughput. To resolve this problem, we are proposing a new scheme for TCP over IEEE 802.11, which stops the communication during the handoff and which retransmits packets lost by transmission errors. In this paper, we describe our scheme and the results of evaluating the performance of our scheme by use of the network simulator ns-2.
