Abstract

In this paper, we consider packet drop policies (PDPs) as a mechanism to improve the performance of TCP traffic over unspecified bit rate ATM ( UBR-ATM ) networks. Existing PDPs were studied against a set of quality of service (QoS) metrics using a well-established simulation package known as OMNeT++. Simulation results were utilized to define, simulate and validate a new drop policy we call Fair Early Random Drop (FERD) which showed good improvement in performance.
