Abstract

This paper briefly analyzes the security mechanisms of GSM and UMTS and finds their security defects, such as unidirectional authentication and cipher key transmission without encryption. For these faults, existing mobile communication systems can not prevent hostile attacks to satisfy high-level security demands. To solve these problems, we propose the robust Middleware Architecture for Mobile Communication Security (MAMCS), which employs new authentication and key agreement protocols, chooses different encryption algorithms for different applications and implements integrity control mechanism. In the end, we analyze the performance of MAMCS and show that it improves the security and has good performance.
