Abstract

Over the past decade, the Internet has become a driving force in the economy, an integral part of the teaching and learning environment and a highly effective tool for global distribution of information and for communication. One problem associated with the Internet is the language barrier. There are as many as 6,000 living languages spoken on the earth today. Language differences are a barrier to the smooth flow of information in our society. In this paper we review an international project aims at overcoming the language barrier. We discuss in detail the Arabic module of this project.
