We propose a method for applying swarm theory to med ical image analysis [1]. A framework for designing and applying swarms to image data has been developed, and the method has been applied to three diverse types of med ical image data. In the examples nature serves as the in spiration for the swarms with agents consisting of termites, bloodhounds and children playing. Supplying the agents with simple means of sensing the world and communicat ing with neighboring agents, they form emergent behaviors and structures that can function as flexible models.
