Nonlinear unknown input observer, fault detection, power systems.
In this paper, we present a new procedure for the synthesis of fault detection filters for nonlinear power systems. The procedure includes two main contributions: (i) development of theory that allows for estimation of faults and unknown inputs that may be present in the plant dynamics and at the same time in output measurements, and (ii) development of a nonlinear model for power systems where faults appear as unknown inputs and totally decoupled from the nonlinearity of the system through a simple nonlinear transformation of the fault coordinates. A 14th -order nonlinear model of a power system is considered where faults on the transmission system occur.
