Information processing is coming into a new era, in which knowledge management has to be able to handle an increasing amount of metamodel-driven multimedia in mobile ubiquitous computing environments. The integration of research efforts on knowledge engineering, ontology engineering, system automation and multimedia is expected to offer a harmonized solution for this multimedia environment. This paper aims to survey the state of the art on metamodel-driven multimedia in mobile Internet and ubiquitous computing environments in terms of multimedia description, multimedia abstraction, multimedia system automation and enhanced multimedia environments.
