Abstract

Emergency services can greatly benefit from an adaptive IT platform that utilises both short and long range mobile communications for the transfer of patient data at the accident site and to and from the recipient hospital. Based on PDA devices as the paramedics’ terminals to the system and wireless sensors for monitoring the vital life signs of the patients, the distributed and adaptive AMPROS middleware platform is designed to provide seamless reconfiguration for all AMPROS compatible equipment entering and leaving the distributed network of computing devices. This paper describes the design and development of the system prototype carried out in close co-operation with specialists in IT, medicine and emergency services and entering the user-piloting phase.
