This paper describes a methodology for designing component models by supporting the consideration of fun damental issues within the component model design space. Typically new software architecture designs define numer ous general goals and constraints. Because numerous well established component models exist, a new component model design should make use of state-of-the-art concepts and investigate new required features, due to its specific re quirements, but not yet provided by existing concepts. So the component model designer saves time on doing stan dard concepts and may spend this saved time for specific innovative concepts. The component model design space illustrates the ma jor screws one can adjust in order to design component models according to ones specific needs.
