Gilbert Cell Mixer, Self-Oscillating Mixer


Simulation and preliminary test results are presented for an RF CMOS Self Oscillating Gilbert Cell Mixer. The conventional Gilbert cell mixer design has been modified to eliminate the need for a separate local oscillator. The complete circuit is simulated at 900 MHz RF, and shows conversion gain. Models for two different CMOS processes (0.18 m and 0.5 m) were used in the simulations with successful results. A low frequency discrete component test circuit was created and confirmed the simulation results.
