Distributed Processing in Medical, Parametric Imaging

Abstract

Parametric imaging requires to calculate an image (parameter values) for every parameter of the assumed object or process model. This is usually achieved by a model to data fitting. The computational cost is high, so performance improvement is required. In the presented study a distributed system based on JavaSpace (Sun Microsystems) technology [1] was applied to calculate parametric images. Implemented Compute Server methodology was used for two medical applications: active thermography and dynamic MRI brain studies. Based on performed experiments and results we conclude that using existing computer infrastructure and limited software modifications high performance improvements can be achieved.
