This paper presents an application, a dictionary that translates words from Portuguese to Japanese, including pictures. It has a local dictionary in XML-TEI format, taking advantage of a web service that communicates with an extra database. It has pictures, Portuguese synonymous dictionary and other information. Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) guidelines are used to encode the electronic dictionary. One main goal was to construct a simple and intuitive interface to the end users, while at the same time allowing several kinds of updates. Japanese phonetic systems are supported as well as Unicode character code system.
