The widespread adoption of Web services promises to usher in an exciting new generation of advanced distributed applications. Replication of Web documents can improve both performance and reliability of the Web service. Re sponse time is a key differentiation point among electronic commerce (e-commerce) applications. In this paper, we an alyze the factors that impact the performance and scalabil ity of a database-driven Web site. We consider the problem of on-line workflow database reorganization. We present an algorithm for maintaining the biconnected components of a graph during a sequence of edge insertions and dele tions. We complement our algorithms with encouraging experimental results.
