Abstract

We present new mechanisms for service differentiation, according to the minimum flow rate plus weighted max min fairness criterion, with an implementation for the In ternet. The mechanism relies on algorithms for stateless congestion control, without increasing the complexity of the routers and supporting a high number of differentiation classes. Routers are oblivious to flow differentiation and the source parameters necessary for flow differentiation are not explicitly transmitted to the routers. In the implementa tion, we propose an alternative procedure for admission of new flows having minimum flow rate requirements, where the negotiation between sources and the network is sim plified. We assess the performance of the scheme through simulation.
