Designing the IIR Filter with Phase and Magnitude Specifications by EA

A novel method for designing IIR filters satisfying both the phase and magnitude specifications is presented. The proposed method is based on the global search method of an evolutionary algorithm (EA). Minimum phase filters have the lowest group delay for an IIR filter with zeros lying inside of the unit circle. The EA method can solve both the nonlinear phase problem of IIR filters and the selection of the optimum implementation coefficients. Design examples demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method for the specified phase and magnitude of an IIR filter.
