Simulation Methods, Prediction Analysis, Least Squares, Quantitative Experiments
Most areas of science and engineering utilize quantitative experiments to determine parameters of interest. Quantitative experiments are characterized by measured variables, a mathematical model and unknown parameters. For most quantitative experiments the method of least squares is used to analyze the data in order to determine values for the unknown parameters. The method of Prediction Analysis can be used to design quantitative experiments. In this paper the method is described and is applied to the design of a typical experiment. The paper also includes a description of the general purpose software used for facilitating the design of a quantitative experiment.
