Abstract

This paper analyses whether enough supply can be made available in Belgium for estimated peak load in winter from 2003-2020 without extra generation capacity investments. The Belgian regulator has stated that extra grid investments as foreseen will guarantee system adequacy. The authors argue that, besides these gird investments, extra generation capacity is necessary because without, the Belgian system will depend too much on import to be adequate. The authors therefore also question the feasibility of the decommissioning decisions by the Belgian governments.
