Abstract

This paper presents the analysis of a series compensated power system with a static synchronous series compensator (SSSC). The objective is to investigate the subsynchronous resonance (SSR) characteristics of the compensated system. A five level diode clamped voltage source inverter (VSI) with fundamental frequency switching is applied as SSSC. The test system considered for the study is the IEEE first benchmark model for SSS studies. The SSR characteristics are studied through eigenvalue analysis.
