Abstract

The cascade loop structure for automatic generation control (AGC) system is established by introducing the zero reference input, and the structure is used to analyze the AGC system. The outer AGC loop is tuned for disturbance rejection to stabilize the frequency deviation, and inner Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) loop is optimized for tracking the AGC instruction to meet the power demands. The interaction between the fast Area Control Error (ACE) loop and slow inner BTG loop is separated by the cascade control action. Comparing with the state space method the cascade loop analysis approach is more convenient for engineering.
