Abstract

--This paper presents an evolutionary computation approach, based on the particle swarm optimization method, for solving the electric power system restoration problem. The restoration problem has been formulated as a multi-stage, mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem with binary, discrete, and continuous decision variables. The objective function of the formulation aims at minimizing the total unserved load at each stage of the restoration process, while satisfying the operating constraints of the system. The proposed method has been tested on the WSCC ninebus test system. The results obtained show the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed method.
