Abstract

A simple and novel control technique for the reactive power compensation is presented. For each 60 duration of the line cycle, the 3-phase bridge can be considered as buck & boost topology and power factor angle of the injected current is made to 90. Constant frequency hysteresis current control is proposed. The magnitude of the injected current can be controlled to bring the power factor at source side to unity. Low current distortion is achieved. Simplicity of control circuit, reduction in switching losses with excellent dynamic performance are the salient features of this control technique.
