Power quality, harmonics, generator, discrete magnetic circuit model
Power quality has emerged as an all important issue in the generation and distribution of electricity. The factors affecting power quality are many and varied, ranging from the ever increasing use of electronic equipment in industry and domestic applications to the development of distributed electricity generating schemes with widely differing generator unit sizes and types. This paper addresses the harmonic content of the terminal voltage of a generator as a power quality issue and presents a modelling approach based on discrete magnetic circuit modelling as a tool in assessing in advance the quality of the voltage generated. Experimental verification is included.
