Abstract

This paper intends to help engineers in practice to imagine the wave shape of the receiving end voltages of loss less transmission line by simple explanations and explicit time-coupling waveforms based on traveling wave theory. It is generally expected that the voltage at the receiving end of a simple no load distribution system during switching could reach twice of the peak system voltage. However, this assumption would be correct in a specific circumstance. In fact, the receiving end voltage depends on the rise time of wave as well as the traveling time. Thoroughly understanding of the behavior of traveling wave could assist engineers to be able to expect the receiving end voltage.
