Voice Over IP, IP Phone, Network Management, Voice Quality Management
This paper presents a framework for managing voice quality in converged voice and data networks containing Internet Protocol based phones (IP phones). It introduces IP phones with voice quality monitoring and testing capabilities. These IP phones support network management capabilities without using conventional network management protocols (e.g., SNMP). Our framework provides a basis for supporting voice quality related network management tasks such as quality of service (QoS) validation, fault isolation, and policy-based management.
