Abstract

In the Mobile IPv6 protocol, the mobile nodes upon moving sends binding updates signals to its Home Agent and correspondent nodes to inform them about its current location. If these signals are not authenticated and secured, Mobile IPv6 protocol is vulnerable to serious attacks. This paper proposes defense mechanisms against such attack and analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the proposal. As for the defense mechanism, we propose a new security and authentication method with focus on one that does not make use of Return Routablity and IPSec. The assessment of the previous defense mechanisms formed the basis of the design goals and principles of our approach.
