Abstract

Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs) are increasing in popularity in locations such as businesses, educational in stitutions, Internet cafes, airports, etc. However, wireless security is a major concern and this paper firstly discusses the possible insecurity issues existing in current WLANs, and then introduces several fundamental attack techniques such as traffic analysis, eavesdropping, session hijacking, replay, man-in-the-middle, etc. Following this, summaries of attacks against confidentiality, integrity and authentica tion are made. Finally, several new standards that have been developed by the IEEE 802.11i working group are discussed.
