Abstract

This paper reports on the experiences the institute made with running an originally web-based teaching project called SPURT. In its core, SPURT focuses on building small to mid-size robots, which aim at managing a par ticular race track as fast as possible. The mediated con tent is from typical engineering disciplines, such as elec trical engineering, programming, mechanical engineer ing, mechatronics, robotics, and crafts-relevant background skill. Based on five years of experiences, this paper hy pothesizes that teaching engineering material might signif icantly benefit from simultaneously incorporating both the ory and practice.
