Abstract

Computer based learning (CBL) is increasingly being used to meet the conflicting demands of reducing class contact time whilst at the same time enhancing the student learning experience. The majority of CBL packages are not reliably evaluated against any valid criteria therefore their quality and success or failure cannot be determined with any certainty. This paper employs the development of two CBL packages within the Faculty of Development and Society at Sheffield Hallam University to identify the various problematic issues encountered. Lessons learnt during the writing, use and evaluation of the packages are utilised to produce a generic best practice quality framework.
