Abstract

The research community developed protocols and standards that allow the development of portable eTraining units. Specifically the standards define methods to structure e-Learning content based on Web technologies. Furthermore communication protocols are specified which allow a standardized communication between the unit and a Learning Management System (LMS). This paper describes an architectural solution supporting online (networked) and offline e-Learning using an extended Web proxy server. The server supports precaching and local re-distribution of multimedia e Learning content and implements the relevant e-Learning protocols to allow offline e-Learning. The extended proxy server supports the dynamic replacement of media content available in different qualities and furthermore supports hybrid learning with local content and remote (online) tracking of user interaction.
