Abstract

Iris recognition, one of biometric techniques, is based on the unique patterns of the human iris, which are the most accurate, non-invasive, and easy-to-use biometric for secure authentication and positive identification. In this paper, one model of iris recognition system using DSP and CPLD is proposed. It completes the functions of iris image sense, image data transmission and storage. Moreover, an optimum design is brought forward to realize these functions. Unlike other iris recognition system, the proposed one employs an adaptive technique to improve performance systematically, and DSP acts as the main processor, sets the work mode of COMS image sensor and image data formation. CPLD realizes these three functions. Internal ingenious logic designs make the high efficiency and utility maximization of CPLD. System timing simulation shows that this design can perform those functions well and achieve excellent result. Furthermore, the design decreases the consumption of system power and resource. The correlative hardware and program of iris recognition system are discussed in details. The optimum design not only speedups the iris recognition system, but also enhances the stability during system processing. As a result, this system can help proving the feasibility of one algorithm for iris recognition.
