Abstract

This paper presents a framework to model interdependent engineering systems, particularly the interdependency relationships between interdependent systems. A unified approach to model multi-disciplinary systems based on the arc-node graph representations and object-oriented programming concepts are presented. As an extension of this approach, the concepts of interdependency junction component (IJC) and environmental object (EO) are introduced to model energy dependency, information dependency and environmental dependency relationships. Using this framework, interdependent engineering systems can be simulated to support overall optimal design and operation as if they were one system.
