: A paper is presented which describes the use of finite element software to provide a two dimensional time harmonic analysis of cavitational activity within an ultrasonic cleaning vessel. A rational for the simulation method utilised and input parameters affecting the model are discussed. Practical affirmation of the model is provided via qualitative methods (The medical decontamination standard HTM2030 foil erosion test) and quantative data obtained from an ultrasonic cavitational probe. A comparison between simulated data from the finite element model and that obtained practically is made with results showing a high level of correlation. Finally limits and implications of the results are discussed along with future directions for development.
