Power system stabiliser, reduced order control, frequency response
A novel approach for designing reduced order suboptimal controllers is presented. It is based on a simple algorithm for matching the frequency response of the reduced order closed loop denominator of the power system to the desired optimal closed loop denominator frequency response. It is crucial that the matching of responses be carried out in the critical region where there is a danger of encirclement of the origin. The design procedure is implemented on a linearised model of a simplified power system represented by a single generator transmitting power to an infinite bus. It is shown through computer simulation, that a stabiliser designed by the method proposed in the paper can significantly improve the dynamic performance of the power system.
