Abstract

Software maintenance tool support for impact analysis is characterized. Relevant information needs of software maintainers are listed. Maintenance tool support is surveyed on five support levels. The survey of provided tool capabilities focuses on automated formation of access structures, their visualization, and navigation aspects. The reviewed main approaches are related to our HyperSoft approach. HyperSoft is well established and provides various access structures such as program slices, and call graphs. HyperSoft uses static program analysis, automated transient hypertext representation, and abstracted views.
