Abstract

This paper discusses the objectives and architecture of the Pyrrho Database Engine, focussing particularly on the optimistic transaction model that has been chosen for this architecture. Pyrrho has some distinctive strengths which give it some advantages both actual and potential over other database architectures. Specifically, Pyrrho supports forensic audit providing full traceability of every transaction. The engine minimises writing to disk achieving a huge saving in disk writing in standard transaction tests. The paper gives details of these tests comparing its performance to that of SQL Server Developer Edition.
